Eclipses 2026 and 2027: every date, degree and sign, and how to read them against your chart

All solar and lunar eclipses of 2026 and 2027 with exact zodiac degrees. What an eclipse actually is, why the degree matters more than the drama, and how to check your own chart.

An eclipse is the most precisely predictable event in astrology: a new or full Moon that happens close enough to one of the lunar nodes that Sun, Moon and Earth line up. Astronomers compute them centuries ahead to the second. Astrologically, an eclipse is a new or full Moon with the volume turned up, and it lands on a specific degree of the zodiac. That degree is the useful part.

The 2026 eclipses

  • February 17: annular solar eclipse at 28°50’ Aquarius (past)
  • March 3: total lunar eclipse at 12°54’ Virgo (past)
  • August 12: total solar eclipse at 20°02’ Leo (past): the first total solar eclipse visible from the European mainland since 1999, with totality crossing Iceland and Spain.
  • August 28: partial lunar eclipse at 4°54’ Pisces: the last eclipse of 2026.

The 2027 eclipses

  • February 6: annular solar eclipse at 17°38’ Aquarius
  • February 20: penumbral lunar eclipse at 2°06’ Virgo
  • July 18: penumbral lunar eclipse at 25°49’ Capricorn
  • August 2: total solar eclipse at 9°55’ Leo: one of the longest totalities of the century, crossing North Africa and the Middle East.
  • August 17: penumbral lunar eclipse at 24°12’ Aquarius

One note on 2027: all three lunar eclipses are penumbral, meaning the Moon only passes through the Earth’s outer shadow. Visually they are barely noticeable, and none of them is a “blood moon”. A calendar that markets them as spectacles is overselling them.

Why the degree matters more than the headline

The popular reading treats every eclipse as an omen for everyone. The computed reading is narrower and more useful: an eclipse concerns your chart to the degree that its zodiac position aspects something in it. An eclipse at 20° Leo that lands exactly on your natal Sun is a different event from the same eclipse thirty degrees away from everything you have.

That check takes one minute if you know your chart: compare the eclipse degrees above with your natal positions and use tight orbs. For eclipses, many astrologers work with much smaller tolerances than for ordinary transits, often only one or two degrees for a conjunction or opposition. An eclipse that hits nothing in your chart within those orbs is, for you, mostly a beautiful sky.

The signs also come in pairs: eclipses run in families along the nodal axis. The 2026 and 2027 sets work the Leo-Aquarius axis (with the Virgo-Pisces series winding down). If you have planets in the middle to late degrees of Leo or Aquarius, these two years touch your chart repeatedly; if not, they mostly happen to other people.

Solar versus lunar, mechanically

A solar eclipse is a new Moon on the nodal axis: Moon between Earth and Sun. Astrologically it carries new-Moon symbolism, beginnings, with emphasis. A lunar eclipse is a full Moon on the axis: Earth between Sun and Moon. It carries full-Moon symbolism, culminations and releases. Whether an eclipse is total, annular, partial or penumbral is a statement about geometry and visibility, not about astrological rank; what changes the astrology is the degree, the axis, and what it touches in a specific chart.
